In Flanders Fields

In Flanders Fields By:
Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD
(1872-1918) Canadian Army
IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Happy Birthday U.S.M.C.

On November 10, 1775, the Continental
Congress commissioned Samuel Nicholas to raise two Battalions of Continental Marines, today known as the United States Marine Corps. That very day, Nicholas set up shop in Tun Tavern. He appointed Robert Mullan, then the proprietor of the tavern, to the job of chief Marine Recruiter — serving, of course, from his place of business at Tun Tavern. Prospective recruits flocked to the tavern, lured by beer and the opportunity to serve in the new Corps of Marines. Hey leathernecks......"Oorah"......we appreciate you.

Lily was here

If I want to make points with my wife I find her "Cool jazz" one of her faves is Candy Dulfer, and I like her also. I like Sax music Its kind of one of those Naughty Pleasures. The song that sticks out the most is the one her and Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics did called Lily was here there is a movie that really goes with it but I got about as lost in that as I did in "Lola rennt" or "Run Lola Run" But anyway back to Naughty Sax music ... I like it

Memories

Ok Sohos just made me take a U-turn back to my childhood and a wonderful memory
Living In rural Montana we didn't have a lot of entertainment. we had a small theatre
(the Rex) and it played second run movies. One time we were in the big city of Spokane WA
(most of my family is from there) and Dad took us to the opening Of the "Jungle book", I was all of 5 but it burned itself into my little mind. and I can still Hear Louis Prima as King Louie sing "I wanna be like you" that Christmas I got a LP (Record for you youngsters) and I wore that album out....and drove Mama nuts, Bless her soul she was a patient person.

The Bird......

Weight watchers is going to be forgotten for one day this month and that’s the 22 ...Thanksgiving. I am going to grill the bird this year (it leaves the 3 oven open for the other stuff), I do it about every 3 years or so I brine it for 24 hours and then into the smoker (I am using apple and maple wood) and a few extra briquette just to keep the heat around 300. It is a thing of beauty.... really. My oldest makes a pecan pie to KILL for and my youngest makes apple pie MMMMMMM, and Mrs. Fyreman well she Is in charge of the other pastries, rolls, and biscuits. Then Its nap time.

A: It's Braille for "suck here".

Q: WHAT IS AN AUSTRALIAN KISS?
A: It's the same as a French kiss, but "down under."

Q: WHAT DO YOU DO WITH 365 USED CONDOMS?
A: Melt them down, make a tire, and call it a Goodyear.

Q: WHY WERE HURRICANES NORMALLY NAMED AFTER WOMEN?
A: Because when they come, they're wild and wet. But when they go, they take your house and car with them.

Q: WHY DO GIRLS RUB THEIR EYES WHEN THEY GET UP IN THE MORNING?
A: Because they don' t have any balls to scratch...

AND:

Q: WHAT IS A MAN'S ULTIMATE EMBARASSMENT?
A: Running into a wall with an erection and breaking his nose.

Just a ramble

My wife calls me "Pan" sometimes because I am the boy that never grew up
I listen to a lot of what my kids listen to and introduce them to new stuff, but I also can listen to Diane Krall and enjoy the hell out of it, my music tastes are all over the board.
Next Year Ozzy Osbourne will be 60 years and he looks to be 70 but when Zakk Wylde starts tearing up the frets Ozzy is all business, I love it he just keeps going. I remember my daughter at 3 singing at the top of her lungs "and Mama, Mama I'm coming home". Speaking Of the youngest of the wild bunch she is following me in Weight Watchers at home and loosing a lot of weight. She is kind of amazed at how easy it is
And I am proud she is taking it so serious.

And I am down 2 more pounds
